TIRANA, August 6 – President Bajram Begaj attended the opening ceremony of the 25th anniversary edition of the Ulqin Book Fair in Montenegro. The event is considered one of the region’s most important cultural gatherings and brings together authors, publishers and readers from Montenegro, Albania, Kosova, North Macedonia and other countries.
Begaj praised the organizers for turning their idea into a lasting mission and highlighted Ulqin’s role as a city of history, culture and hospitality. He said the Albanian language remains a language of family, memory and creativity in the city. He also stressed the importance of books in preserving cultural identity and preparing society for the future.
In addition, the president said books do more than provide information. They encourage people to think critically, ask questions and understand different perspectives. He noted that books help preserve and enrich the Albanian language, tradition, culture and identity through the work of writers, translators, teachers, researchers and journalists.
Begaj called for books to become a national priority through stronger support for libraries, school reading programs, publishers, translators and authors. Earlier in the day, he met Ulqin Mayor Genci Nimanbegu and representatives of the Albanian political community in the city. They discussed local development projects, challenges and the importance of strengthening Albanian representation in Montenegro.
The president said cooperation between Ulqin, Tuzi and Albania would continue to serve as a bridge connecting the two countries.
