Another section of Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII opens, works continue on Elbasan–Qafë Thana road

TIRANA, August 7 – Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that another section of Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII has opened for traffic as works continue on the Elbasan–Qafë Thana road axis.

The new section stretches from the exit of Labinot-Fushë village to beyond Miraka village. It includes two lanes for both directions and is now accessible to traffic.

Rama said the opening improves traffic flow, increases road safety, shortens travel time and facilitates the movement of passengers and goods.

Meanwhile, the prime minister highlighted that the project will make the connection between Korçë, southeastern Albania and the rest of the country faster, safer and more modern. He said the investment will also support economic and tourism development in the areas linked by this route.

The project forms part of Albania’s programme to modernize national infrastructure and develop the road network in line with the Albania 2030 objectives.
The entire Elbasan–Qafë Thana project covers 50.12 km. The route connects Durrës–Elbasan–Librazhd–Qafë Thana and will further link Albania with North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII represents one of Albania’s most important transport routes. The corridor connects the country with other regional states and forms part of the wider European transport network.
