TIRANA, August 10 – Albin Kurti of the Self-Determination Movement (LVV) asked for more time for political talks on August 8. He did not nominate a candidate for parliament speaker. As a result, the constitutive session did not continue.
Tensions rose after Time Kadriaj, an MP from the Alliance for the Future of Kosova (AAK), approached Kurti and threw eggs in his direction. MPs from several parties then gathered. Presiding MP Avni Dehari subsequently suspended the session.
The developments came as LVV and the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK) remained far from an agreement on forming the country’s institutions. After the session, LDK MP Jeohna Lushaku Sadriu described the incident as a “bad image” for parliament. She said MPs should complete the constitution of the Assembly. She also accused LVV of failing to fulfil its responsibility.
Meanwhile, MPs from other political parties spoke to the media after Avni Dehari suspended the session.
