TIRANA, August 10 – Albania’s civil aviation sector is recording new highs in 2026 as summer tourism drives passenger and flight traffic. Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi visited the public company Albcontrol today, to review measures for managing the increased air traffic.
Albcontrol Director Dritan Isaku said the organisation handled around 242,000 flights from January through July. The figure represents an 11% increase from the same period in 2025. Albcontrol has also increased staffing to manage the summer peak and respond to unusual or emergency situations. Isaku said the sector has faced heavier traffic in recent years because of increased activity at Tirana International Airport. He added that operations have so far faced no problems.
Tirana International Airport currently ranks as the busiest airport in the Balkans. Karakaçi said Albania continues to record double-digit annual growth in civil aviation. He also highlighted passenger traffic at Tirana airport, which reached around 6 million in the first half of 2026. The figure represents an increase of about 900,000 passengers from 2025.
Meanwhile, Karakaçi linked the continued growth to government policies that have diversified airlines and routes. He said the expansion has created more opportunities for tourism and stronger economic links between countries.
