High passenger and vehicle flows at Albania’s ports and border crossings

TIRANA, August 10 – High passenger and vehicle flows continue at Albania’s ports and border crossing points (BCP-s) during the peak tourist season. Thousands of people and vehicles have entered and left the country in recent hours.

At the Port of Vlora, around 2,700 passengers are expected today on 3 Brindisi-Vlora ferries. Authorities also expect around 700 vehicles. Border Police increased the number of control booths from 8 to 12 to handle the flow and prevent long queues. Many Italian tourists have arrived in Vlora, with some staying in the city and others continuing to southern tourist destinations.

Meanwhile, 4 ferries arrived at the Port of Durrës during the morning, carrying 5,359 passengers and 1,564 vehicles. Two more ferries are expected in the evening. At the Morina border crossing with Kosova, authorities recorded more than 19,000 passengers and around 4,000 vehicles in the early morning hours.

Kakavija BCP also recorded heavy traffic. Authorities registered 12,273 crossings over the past 24 hours, including 8,523 entries and 3,750 exits, along with 3,735 vehicles. Traffic from Greece has caused long queues on the Greek side, with the average waiting time reaching around 2 hours. Kapshtica BCP recorded 8,630 entries and 3,769 exits, while Qafë-Thana BCP recorded 6,174 entries and 5,070 exits.

Authorities have increased control booths and other measures at busy crossings. The measures aim to process passengers faster and ease movement during the tourist season peak.
