TIRANA, August 11 – The Kosova Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed concern over delays in constituting parliament and forming the government. The chamber warned that the lack of functioning institutions is creating uncertainty and causing further damage to the economy and local businesses.
The chamber called on parliamentary parties to overcome the deadlock and enable institutions to start functioning as soon as possible. It said Kosova needs functioning institutions and effective decision-making. Another election cycle, it warned, would deepen uncertainty for the private sector and the economy.
The chamber said the constitution of parliament and formation of the government are also necessary because Kosova faces a major economic agenda. It has identified numerous laws and issues that require amendments or new regulations. These include laws on domestic trade, bankruptcy, mining and minerals, labour, maternity leave, value-added tax, public property, strategic investments and business companies.
Meanwhile, the chamber said businesses need legal certainty and predictable policies. They also need lower administrative and fiscal burdens, support for domestic production and investment, and a more favourable business climate. The chamber urged political parties to put the country’s economic interests above political differences and complete the institutional process.
