French article: Bookings from France to Albania rise by 288%

TIRANA, August 12 – Prime Minister Edi Rama has shared a French article on social media about the growing interest among foreign tourists in Albania. Marie-Flamine Lavergne wrote the article. She examined the factors that are turning Albania into one of Europe’s most sought-after tourist destinations.

According to the article, bookings from France to Albania have increased by 288.2% compared with last year. In 2025, Albania welcomed more than 12 million international visitors. Tourism has consequently become one of the country’s main economic sectors.

The article identifies several factors behind Albania’s growing popularity. Price comes first. Albania remains a more affordable option than destinations such as Greece, Italy and Croatia. This applies to both accommodation and food. The article says an inexpensive restaurant meal costs around 8 euros in Albania. The same meal costs 12 euros in Croatia, 15 euros in Greece and 17 euros in Italy. A room for 2 nights costs barely 100 euros on booking websites, according to the article.

Accessibility also plays a role. Air connections with Tirana have increased significantly. Low-cost airlines have contributed to this growth. Meanwhile, gradual infrastructure improvements are making travel within the country easier.

The article also highlights Albania’s landscape. Blue waters, mountains, traditional villages and the Albanian Riviera have attracted growing attention from tourists. Social media has particularly increased interest in these destinations. Ksamil receives special attention for its beaches and small islands. However, the article also points to Albania’s mountain destinations and cultural heritage.

At the same time, the article notes the challenges created by rising visitor numbers. Albania has implemented the National Tourism Strategy 2030 since 2024. The strategy aims to increase tourism revenue and improve hotel infrastructure. It also seeks to protect the natural environment from the potential effects of overtourism.
