Four wildfires remain active in Albania as situation improves, no threat to populated areas

TIRANA, August 19 – Albania has 6 wildfire hotspots, with 4 still active and 2 under monitoring, the Ministry of Defence said in an update at 14:00. Authorities have deployed 126 local operational personnel. The Armed Forces are supporting the response with 90 personnel and 2 Air Force helicopters.

On Mount Dajti in Tirana, 50 Armed Forces personnel, 15 fire and rescue personnel and 5 Environmental Management Agency personnel continue operations. There is no threat to populated areas. Meanwhile, fire and rescue teams are working to contain a reactivated hotspot in Priska. In Lufaj, Mirdita, the fire remains active at low intensity. Eight forestry workers and 4 firefighters are operating there, with no threat to populated areas.

In addition, teams on Mount Tërbun in Puka are opening firebreaks after completing aerial operations. Authorities say the situation remains under control, with no threat to populated areas. At the same time, the situation has improved in Lura National Park, where firefighters have extinguished the fire and continue to monitor the area.

Meanwhile, authorities have isolated the hotspot in Qafë-Helmës, where local teams continue operations. Civil Protection structures are maintaining operations and monitoring across the affected areas. Overall, authorities describe the situation as stable and report no threat to populated areas.
