Albania will take part in the Mediterranean Games “Taranto 2026” as the country prepares to co-host the Prishtina-Durrës 2030 edition. Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said Albania will use the event to gain valuable experience from Italy.
“Albania is going to Taranto not only to compete, but also to learn from our Italian neighbours,” Gonxhja said.
He highlighted the wider benefits of major sporting events. They attract athletes, international delegations and visitors. They also promote tourism, culture and local economies.
Gonxhja said the Mediterranean Games can strengthen cooperation between countries and promote friendship, solidarity and respect through sport.
Albania’s participation in Taranto will therefore serve a dual purpose: competing on the international stage and learning how to organize a major sporting event.
The experience will support preparations for the Prishtina-Durrës 2030 Mediterranean Games, which Kosovo and Albania will host together.
