Albanian Football Federation chief Duka highlights competition and young talent as new season begins

TIRANA, August 21 – The new Abissnet Superiore season starts today on RTSH. The 88th edition of Albania’s top football division opens with Vllaznia against Skënderbeu at Loro Boriçi Stadium at 21:00.

Albanian Football Federation President Armand Duka says the new season will bring stronger competition and new opportunities for young Albanian players. He also stressed the importance of professionalism and stronger clubs.

The new format will feature three regular stages, followed by play-offs and play-outs. Duka said the changes should keep the title race, European places and relegation battle open until the end.

A new rule will require clubs to field at least one Albanian player born in 2007 or later. Duka described the measure as an opportunity for young talents to gain experience at the highest domestic level.

Meanwhile, Albanian clubs enter the new season after strong European campaigns. Egnatia have secured a place in the UEFA Conference League league phase and are also competing for a place in the UEFA Europa League league phase. Dinamo City are in the Conference League play-offs.

Duka called for continued investment in academies, infrastructure and professionalism. He also urged clubs, players and supporters to promote fair play and strengthen the connection between football and local communities.
