TIRANA, August 21 – Albanian Olympic Committee President Fidel Ylli and Secretary General Gerti Shima took part in the election of Francesco Purromuto as the new president of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games. The election took place in Taranto ahead of the opening of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games.
Representatives of 26 member National Olympic Committees attended the General Assembly. Purromuto takes over after the death of former president Davide Tizzano. The assembly observed a minute of silence in his memory.
During his stay in Taranto, Ylli held meetings with counterparts from the 26 member countries. The talks focused on strengthening cooperation and relations among the National Olympic Committees.
The election comes ahead of the Mediterranean Games, one of the region’s major sporting events.
