National Maritime Museum to highlight Shkodër’s historic link with the lake

TIRANA, August 21 – The National Maritime Museum is taking shape at the entrance to Shkodër. The museum will tell the story of the city’s historic links with the lake, rivers and navigation. Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images of the construction work on social media as the project adds to Shkodër’s cultural and tourism offer.

The museum forms part of a wider package of projects in Shkodër. Authorities aim to strengthen the city’s tourism potential as visitor numbers grow. The building will feature two stacked volumes, with a lower hill-shaped structure and an upper “floating boat”.

It will include a permanent exhibition, a children’s area, a boat reconstruction laboratory and an educational room. The project has a value of 2.4 million euros and European Union is financing it through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
