President of the Republic Bajram Begaj has visited Italy, where he attended the opening ceremony of the “Taranto 2026” Mediterranean Games in support of the Albanian team of athletes.
During the visit, President Begaj was welcomed by his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, as well as by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
At President Mattarella’s invitation, the Albanian head of state attended the official opening ceremony of this year’s Mediterranean Games from the stands.
Albania is represented at “Taranto 2026” by 71 athletes competing in 17 sports. The Albanian delegation also includes athletes who have achieved significant results at European and international level.
This edition of the Mediterranean Games is particularly important for Albania, as the next edition will be held in Albania and Kosovo, with Kosovo as the flag bearer.
President Begaj’s visit to Italy comes as part of his support for the Albanian delegation and efforts to promote sporting cooperation between the two countries.
