Gonxhja meets Italian Sports and Youth Minister, focusing on infrastructure and anti-doping

Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja met Italian Sports and Youth Minister Andrea Abodi during the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games.

The ministers discussed stronger cooperation between Albania and Italy in sports and youth policies. They focused on sports infrastructure, staff training and sports medicine.

They also stressed the need to fight doping and promote physical activity in schools and universities.

Moreover, the Albanian delegation welcomed Italy’s experience in organizing major sporting events. This experience could support preparations for the 2030 Mediterranean Games in Pristina and Durrës.

The two sides also discussed Italy’s sports funding and health models.

Finally, Albania and Italy agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding by the end of September. The agreement will set clear priorities, deadlines and actions for future cooperation.
