TIRANA, August 24 – The Organization of War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL-KLA) has backed former Kosova Liberation Army commander Ramush Haradinaj’s proposal to restore Hashim Thaçi’s presidential mandate after his return to Kosova.
In a Facebook post, the veterans’ organization described the proposal as carrying “national and institutional weight”. It said the initiative could promote unity in the country.
According to OVL-KLA, Thaçi’s role in the liberation war and his later institutional responsibilities during Kosova’s state-building process provide guarantees for the country’s future alongside its strategic allies. The organization urged relevant institutions and political forces to consider the proposal seriously and put it above party divisions.
Meanwhile, Haradinaj said at a press conference that extending Thaçi’s mandate after his return would serve the national interest. He also described it as a response to those he considers “enemies of Kosova”.
Haradinaj said the current legislature, as well as future legislatures, should have the honour of extending Thaçi’s mandate as president.
