TIRANA, August 26 – The Vora-Hani i Hotit railway reconstruction project was presented in Lezha during a public consultation with communities along the planned route. The project will rehabilitate the existing railway track and bring it in line with European transport standards.
The project has entered the contractor selection phase. Authorities expect construction to finish by 2030.
The railway will cover about 120 kilometres and will be fully electrified. Trains will travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour and will carry both passengers and freight.
In addition, the project will reconstruct 12 stations and 12 bridges. It will also include the construction of one tunnel. The journey will take about two hours.
The investment, estimated at about €356 million, aims to modernise Albania’s rail transport. It will also connect the country with regional and European railway networks.
