TIRANA, August 26 – Albania has officially begun a new aerial survey of its territory. The project is being carried out through cooperation between the State Authority for Geospatial Information and the Albanian Development Fund.
The initiative aims to update geospatial information and strengthen the country’s capacity to monitor, plan and manage its territory. The first phase covers aerial imaging of 680 square kilometres of urban areas.
The project uses very high-resolution technology with a ground sampling distance of 5 centimetres. It also uses light detection and ranging scanning at a density of 10 points per square metre.
Meanwhile, the project will update and develop the Basic Map for the entire territory of Albania. The new data will provide more accurate, detailed and up-to-date cartographic information.
For the first time, the project will also include oblique aerial photography. This technology will support advanced geospatial products, including 3D models and images of urban areas.
As a result, the new data will support the analysis, visualisation and management of urban areas, the environment and agriculture, among other fields.
