TIRANA, August 27 – Domestic electricity production increased by 34.4% in the second quarter of 2026, while exports rose sharply and imports declined, according to data released by INSTAT.
Net domestic production reached 2,361 GWh, up from 1,757 GWh in the same quarter of 2025. Hydropower plants accounted for most of the increase, while other renewable sources also raised their output.
Meanwhile, gross electricity exports reached 991 GWh, compared with 638 GWh a year earlier, marking a 55.4% increase. In contrast, gross imports fell by 21.5% to 569 GWh, from 725 GWh in the second quarter of 2025. As a result, the balance between gross exports and imports stood at 422 GWh.
Public hydropower plants produced 1,011 GWh, up 43.6%, while private and concessionary plants produced 903 GWh, an 18% increase. Other producers generated 448 GWh, up 55.6%.
At the same time, electricity consumption increased by 6.2% to 1,619 GWh. Household consumption rose 5.6%, while non-household consumption increased 6.9%. INSTAT also reported that losses fell to 16.5% of available electricity, from 17.3% a year earlier.
