TIRANA, August 27 – Albin Kurti and Lumir Abdixhiku have moved to specific names in talks on the next president of Kosova. The 2 leaders met for more than 2 hours as part of efforts to resolve the institutional crisis.
Kurti said the meeting marked the first time they had discussed concrete candidates. He described the talks as open, sincere and serious. He said the sides had previously agreed on criteria based on the values, merits and national, state, professional and civic contributions of potential candidates.
Meanwhile, Abdixhiku said the discussions had moved from political principles to specific names. He said most of the candidates presented broadly met the criteria agreed by the 2 parties.
Kurti also addressed Ramush Haradinaj’s proposal to nominate Hashim Thaçi for president. He said the political talks with the Democratic League of Kosova were separate from the judicial process involving Thaçi and other former Kosova Liberation Army members. Kurti also said he believed in their innocence and hoped they would return to a free Kosova.
The 2 parties are expected to continue discussions on specific candidates at their next meeting.
