Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Andis Salla said the government is finalizing a new agricultural insurance scheme to protect farmers and crops from damage caused by natural disasters.
The scheme responds to concerns farmers have raised across the country about losses from frost, hail, floods and fires. Salla said authorities are now close to completing the mechanism.
“This scheme will create a new support and protection mechanism for Albanian farmers,” Salla said.
The government plans to make the scheme available to both small and large farms. As a result, farmers will have greater protection against unexpected events that can cause major losses to crops and family incomes.
Importantly, the State Budget will cover part of the insurance premium. This support will reduce the costs farmers must pay and make agricultural insurance more affordable and accessible.
“Farmers should not face a storm, frost or fire alone when it can destroy an entire year’s work,” Salla said.
Moreover, the new insurance system aims to give farmers greater security and stability. It will also help the agricultural sector prepare better for risks linked to natural disasters.
“With agricultural insurance, we aim to provide greater protection, security and stability for farmers. In this way, we can build a stronger and better-prepared Albanian agricultural sector,” Salla said.
Finally, the minister said the government will continue working to turn farmers’ concerns into concrete support measures.
“Our work continues to turn the concerns you have raised into concrete solutions,” Salla concluded.
