TIRANA, August 28 – British newspaper Daily Mail has highlighted Tirana as Europe’s most affordable destination for short breaks. The report cited a new study by British travel agency Thomas Cook.
The study ranked 51 popular European destinations. It found that 18 destinations could be visited for less than 100 pounds per person per day. Tirana ranked first, with an average daily cost of 51 pounds in September.
According to the Daily Mail, visitors can explore Tirana’s architecture, cafes and surrounding landscapes at this cost. A 3-day trip would cost about 153 pounds per person.
The study put the average price of paid tourist attractions below 4 pounds. It also found that restaurant meals remained affordable. A serving of tavë kosi, a traditional Albanian dish, cost about 7 pounds. A Korça beer added about 1.31 pounds.
Meanwhile, accommodation averaged about 27.50 pounds per person per night in early September.
The Daily Mail also reported that Albania’s tourism bookings had increased by more than 300% in recent years. Thomas Cook executive Nicholas Smith said European cities outside the main tourist destinations could offer British travellers lower-cost alternatives.
The study also ranked Bucharest in Romania and Antalya in Turkey among Europe’s most affordable destinations.
