Former Albanian Prime Minister and Socialist Party MP Pandeli Majko has reacted following a report by Montenegrin media outlet “Vijesti,” according to which Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić was referring to Albania and Serbia when speaking about coordinated hybrid activities aimed at destabilizing the country.
In his response, Majko called on Montenegro to immediately provide an explanation and present evidence if Albania is indeed one of the two countries against which the Montenegrin Prime Minister made these allegations.
Majko described as particularly concerning the possibility that one NATO member state could accuse another member of the Alliance of involvement in destabilizing activities. According to him, if the allegations are concrete, they cannot remain merely statements on social media but should be accompanied by diplomatic notes and, if necessary, brought before NATO structures.
“Montenegrin politics has a legacy of sophisticated positions. This sophistication is also linked to a ‘double’ life of coexistence with neighbors that have unfriendly relations with one another. Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić, has gone beyond his country’s historical positions, placing it at a crossroads.
Montenegro must provide an explanation if we are facing a regional scandal in which one NATO country is ‘attacking’ another member of the Alliance. Otherwise, it must acknowledge that these are emotional, unsubstantiated comments made on social media.
The choice must be made by Montenegro’s state institutions, where Milojko Spajić serves as Prime Minister,” Majko wrote.
