Albanian boxer Nelson Hysa continues to make history on the international boxing stage.
Hysa secured his 25th career victory on Saturday, with 23 of his wins coming by knockout. The Shkodër-born heavyweight successfully defended his WBO title after knocking out Norway’s Thomas Narmo after two rounds.
The 41-year-old Albanian remains undefeated. He faced Narmo in a clash between two unbeaten heavyweights at London’s O2 Arena.
Hysa ended the fight spectacularly in the second round during the preliminary bouts of the Moses Itauma–Filip Hrgović event.
The Albanian found the right moment and landed a powerful right hand that sent Narmo to the canvas. The Norwegian got back up, but he struggled to remain steady. The referee then stopped the fight.
Prime Minister Edi Rama congratulated Hysa on his historic achievement. He described him as the first Albanian boxer to fight for a world championship title.
“Congratulations, champion! Nelson Hysa, newly crowned global champion and the first Albanian in the world to fight for the world championship title,” Rama said.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja also celebrated Hysa’s victory and highlighted his unbeaten record.
Thousands of Albanians attended the fight and created a strong red-and-black atmosphere inside the O2 Arena.
“A great victory in a magical atmosphere, in front of thousands of Albanians who turned the O2 Arena into a stand filled with the red-and-black flag,” Gonxhja wrote.
Hysa has now won all 25 of his professional fights without a single defeat. The convincing victory marks another important step in his WBO Global heavyweight journey.
