TIRANA, August 31 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that 20 schools in Tirana now have smart cameras under the Smart City project. The investment aims to strengthen security in schools.
Rama said the government decided to invest in new security technology after a 14-year-old boy was fatally stabbed near Fan Noli School in Tirana. He added that the existing camera systems had not provided enough information to clarify what happened.
The new systems can alert school principals, security staff and the State Police in real time. This can help them respond more quickly to potentially dangerous situations.
Rama said the new cameras occupy the same locations as the previous systems. However, they can also detect and signal suspicious situations in real time. He described the 20 schools as the first stage of a wider process that will gradually cover schools across Albania.
