TIRANA, August 31 – The Self-Determination Movement and the Democratic League of Kosova have agreed on professor Bekim Sejdiu as their joint candidate for president.
Self-Determination leader Albin Kurti and Democratic League leader Lumir Abdixhiku presented Sejdiu at a joint news conference. Abdixhiku said the negotiations had not been easy. However, both parties remained committed to finding a candidate who could secure their joint support.
Bekim Sejdiu was born in 1974. He serves as a judge at the Constitutional Court of Kosova and teaches at the Faculty of Law of the University of Prishtina. He has also held several diplomatic posts.
Sejdiu served as Kosova’s ambassador to Turkey from 2008 to 2012. He then served as the country’s consul general in New York from 2012 to 2014. Earlier, he worked as a political adviser in the cabinet of Kosova’s first foreign minister. Sejdiu has taught at the University of Prishtina since 2002. He studied law there and later pursued postgraduate studies in international relations, democracy and human rights. He holds a doctorate in international and diplomatic studies.
