TIRANA, September 1 – More than 220 people have requested access to the courtroom for the September 16 verdict in the case of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi. The Kosova Specialist Chambers in The Hague will allocate only 80 seats in the public gallery. Forty seats will go to close family members and 40 to media representatives.
The accredited media include 17 international outlets, 16 from Kosova, 4 from Albania and 3 from Serbia. Everyone else will follow the verdict through the court’s broadcast.
Meanwhile, legal experts and former comrades of the 4 former Kosova Liberation Army (KLA) leaders expect an acquittal. Lawyer Skender Musa told Kosova’s public broadcaster that he expects the court to clear the defendants if political factors do not influence the proceedings.
Fatmir Sopi, deputy head of the KLA War Veterans Organization, also said former comrades expect the 4 defendants to be cleared. He described the charges as fabricated.
As September 16 approaches, preparations have begun in Kosova for possible celebrations. Prishtina has announced a support march under the slogan “Kosova Is Waiting.” The verdict is expected to mark a major moment in Kosova’s relationship with international justice.
