TIRANA, September 1 – The US Embassy in Tirana praised Albania for repatriating 5 Albanian citizens from Syria. The group included 2 women and 3 children.

The embassy described the operation as an important step for the families and for global security. It said the returnees would receive support for rehabilitation and reintegration. The embassy also called the operation “a victory” for the families and global security.

Albania brought the 5 citizens home from Syria on August 26. The group included 3 minors and a 79-year-old woman. The repatriation forms part of ongoing efforts by Albanian institutions to bring home citizens who remain in conflict zones and camps in Syria.
