27 wildfires reported in 24 hours, 4 remain active

TIRANA, September 1 – The Ministry of Defence reported 27 wildfires across Albania over the past 24 hours. Four fires remain active, while authorities are monitoring 4 others. Firefighters deployed 432 operational personnel and 43 vehicles, with support from 70 military personnel and 3 Air Force helicopters.

Today, authorities plan to deploy 90 military personnel in the municipalities of Bulqiza, Mat and Tirana. In Mount Dajt, active fires continue towards Qafë-Priska. Yesterday, 15 firefighters, 9 personnel from the Regional Administration of Protected Areas, 20 military personnel and a helicopter worked in the area. Authorities said the fire poses no threat to populated areas.

In Vajkal, Bulqiza, a fire continues to burn across a large area of shrubs and juniper trees on rocky terrain. Eleven personnel from the Fire Protection and Rescue Service, 5 forestry personnel, 7 volunteers and 30 military personnel are working there. Meanwhile, a forest fire continues in Lundra, Mat, where 40 personnel from the Fire Protection and Rescue Service and forestry structures, 20 military personnel and a helicopter are working to contain it.

Another active fire affects steep terrain near Ura e Shtrenjtë in Shkodër. Crews are working to contain it and prevent further spread. Authorities are also monitoring fires at Qafë-Helmës in Bulqiza, Lugu Pass in Korça, Mount Qukës in Prrenjas and Zheja in Kurbin. The Ministry said none of these areas face a threat to populated zones. The National Civil Protection Agency continues to monitor the situation nationwide with local authorities and civil protection structures.
