TIRANA, September 2 – Sofia Moreira de Sousa is taking over as the new European Union ambassador to Albania after the end of Silvio Gonzato’s mandate.
Moreira de Sousa will first present her credentials to President Bajram Begaj. The ceremony will formally mark the start of her mandate in Albania.
The Portuguese diplomat brings extensive experience in European diplomacy. Before her appointment in Tirana, she headed the European Commission Representation in Portugal. Earlier in her career, she served as the European Union ambassador to Cape Verde.
Her appointment comes as Albania’s relations with the European Union and the country’s European integration process remain key issues on the political and diplomatic agenda.
