Mediterranean Games: Enkileda Carja wins bronze in the snatch

18-year-old weightlifter Enkileda Carja won another medal for Albania at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. Carja secured bronze in the 69 kg snatch event after lifting 100 kg.

She succeeded in two of her three attempts. First, Carja lifted 98 kg. Then, she successfully raised 100 kg after adding two kilograms. For her third attempt, Carja went for gold with 103 kg. However, she could not complete the lift.

Carja also competed in the clean and jerk. She succeeded only on her first attempt, lifting 116 kg. She then tried 121 kg and 122 kg. However, she failed to complete either lift.

Carja’s personal bests currently stand at 103 kg in the snatch and 123 kg in the clean and jerk. She achieved both marks at the European Youth Championships in Batumi, Georgia, in April.

At the same competition, she also won the “European Rising Star 2025” award. Meanwhile, Albania added more medals through weightlifter Briken Calja. He won one gold and one bronze medal on the same day.

Competing in the 75 kg category, Calja delivered a dominant performance. He completed all three of his snatch attempts at 147 kg, 152 kg, and 154 kg.

As a result, he won gold and set three new Mediterranean records in the discipline. In the clean and jerk, Calja lifted 184 kg. The performance set another Mediterranean record and earned him the bronze medal.

With these latest results, Albania has now collected six medals at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games.

The tally includes two gold medals for Islam Dudaev and Briken Calja, one silver for Zelimkhan Abakarov, and three bronze medals for Ardit Zeneli, Briken Calja, and Enkileda Carja.
