Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced changes to the way inspections and checks on businesses will be carried out. In a video message posted on Facebook, Rama said there would no longer be routine inspections without prior notice, stressing that inspections should aim to help businesses comply with the law and required standards, rather than catch them committing violations.
According to Rama, inspectors should not arrive at businesses as though they were entering a “crime scene,” but rather as representatives of the state who provide notice, supervise and help businesses address any problems.
“Inspections must pass the test of trust. First, there should no longer be any inspections without prior notice. An inspector should not show up at a business as if arriving at a crime scene, but as a representative of the state who provides notice, supervises and helps you correct problems. Our goal is not to catch businesses making mistakes, but to help them improve their compliance with the law and meet standards that are in our common interest,” Rama said.
Rama also announced another change to the way inspections will be conducted. According to him, soon every inspector carrying out checks on behalf of the state will be equipped with a smart body camera and a uniform.
“So that you know who the inspector is and whom they represent, while the inspector also knows that they are being monitored by the Inspector General,” Rama said.
