Albania expands ALBTraceCo’s role in biometric and digital identity services

The Council of Ministers has approved changes that expand the activity of ALBTraceCo, the company responsible for producing and distributing biometric documents.

The new decision adds services and technology systems linked to biometric and digital identity.

Under the decision, the company will manage and develop high-security infrastructure and technologies. ALBTraceCo will provide the necessary systems and services.

These technologies must protect citizens’ sensitive data. They must also secure biometric identities, biometric data and blank physical biometric documents.

In addition, the company can now develop, integrate and manage critical state platforms and systems. It can also provide additional services related to the production and distribution of biometric documents.

The expanded activity covers the design, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of electronic systems. These systems will support biometric and digital identity, electronic identification, authentication, tracking and electronic verification.

Furthermore, ALBTraceCo can provide other technological or integrated services that support these goals.

The Ministry of Interior, the state company responsible for biometric documents and ALBTraceCo will oversee the implementation of the decision.

The decision will take effect after its publication in the Official Gazette.
