TIRANA, September 3 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said the government is developing a “digital radar” as part of a new digital system to identify trends and signals in the public-interest sphere.
Speaking to the Socialist Party parliamentary group and the government cabinet, Rama said the radar would monitor developments in the digital space rather than individuals. He said institutions would respond to identified issues, while the broader system would make the process verifiable.
Rama also said the system should help distinguish citizens’ concerns from pressure, misinformation and other misleading content circulating online. He cited false claims about food and medicines as examples of information that can create public concern.
Meanwhile, he said the government should develop greater capacity to understand developments in the digital space and respond to issues of public interest. He also referred to pressure allegedly placed on businesses through online platforms.
Rama said the digital system would form part of a broader approach to monitoring public-interest issues and responding to concerns raised in the digital environment.
