Taranto has officially handed over the Mediterranean Games flag to Prishtina, which will host the 2030 edition.
The 20th Mediterranean Games ended in Taranto with a celebration featuring Mediterranean music, a tarantella performance, spectacular lights and fireworks.
During the closing ceremony, representatives from all 26 participating countries paraded at the Lacovone Stadium. Italy dominated the Games and set a new all-time medal record. The host country won 224 medals, including 74 gold, 78 silver and 72 bronze.
Italy also broke its previous record of 199 medals, which it had set at the 1997 Mediterranean Games in Bari.
Meanwhile, Türkiye finished second with 111 medals, while Greece took third place with 71. Albania finished 16th among the 26 participating countries. The Albanian team won six medals, including two gold, one silver and three bronze.
Kosovo, which will host the next edition in 2030, finished 15th with nine medals. Its athletes won two gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
As the Taranto Games came to an end, the official handover marked the start of Kosovo’s preparations to host the Mediterranean sporting event in Prishtina in 2030.
