TIRANA, September 4 – Six years have passed since Kosova and Serbia signed the Washington Agreement, mediated by the United States.
On September 4, 2020, then-Kosova Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed commitments on economic normalisation at the White House. Then-US President Donald Trump attended the ceremony.
Under the agreement, Kosova and Israel agreed to establish mutual recognition. Kosova later established diplomatic relations with Israel and opened its embassy in Jerusalem on March 14, 2021.
The commitments also included a one-year moratorium on Kosova’s applications to join international organisations. Serbia agreed to suspend its campaign to withdraw recognition of Kosova’s independence for the same period.
The agreement also covered infrastructure, the economy, energy, security, missing persons and religious freedom.
