TIRANA, September 5 – A large wildfire spread through Himara on Friday evening, creating a critical situation as strong winds pushed the flames closer to residential areas. The fire spread rapidly across hills near the 1 Maji neighborhood and the city’s bypass, burning large areas of orchards.
At least one home was reportedly damaged by the flames. Authorities also warned that the fire could cross the main road and move toward the Potam area.
Firefighting teams from Vlora, Saranda, Delvina and Finiq joined local forces in the emergency response. Local residents also took part in the effort. Teams worked through the night in difficult conditions caused by darkness and strong winds. Their main priority was to create a protective perimeter around homes and private properties.
Himara Mayor Vangjel Tavo issued an urgent appeal for residents to evacuate areas at risk. He urged people to leave homes, businesses and other locations that could endanger their lives. Tavo also called on residents to remain calm and follow instructions from the authorities.
