TIRANA, September 5 – The wildfire situation in Levan, Fier, was much calmer on Friday evening, Defense Minister Ermal Nufi said after visiting the area.
Nufi said teams were monitoring two fire hotspots. They are checking the areas again on Saturday morning from the ground and, most likely, from the air. He described Friday as one of the most difficult days of the summer wildfire season. Forces worked in Lezha, Dibra, Mat, Qinami in Tirana and Levan in Fier.
More than 100 personnel took part in the operation in Levan. Two helicopters and an Air Tractor aircraft also supported the effort. The fire spread across a four-kilometer area.
Nufi said he would travel to Himara after visiting Levan. He will assess the situation and the needs of teams on the ground. He stressed that timely intervention at every fire hotspot remains a priority. He also confirmed that no lives had been lost.
Several homes suffered damage from the fires, Nufi said. He added that timely intervention and the efforts of all those involved had brought the situation under control.
