The European Democrats have reacted to the suspension of Euronews Albania’s Instagram account, expressing solidarity and calling on Meta to intervene immediately.
In a statement posted on X, they described the timing of the suspension as “deeply concerning”, as it came just hours after the programme “Review”, hosted by journalist Greta Topjana, interviewed the Secretary General of the European Democrats and MEP Sandro Gozi.
During the interview, Gozi spoke about the suspension of activists’ accounts in Albania and called for transparency from Meta regarding what is happening on Instagram.
“Media freedom and freedom of expression cannot be subject to opaque or arbitrary restrictions,” the European Democrats said in their statement.
They directly called on Meta to clarify the situation and restore the media outlet’s account.
“We call on Meta to intervene immediately, clarify what happened, and restore the account without delay,” the statement concluded.
