More than 13,000 fines were issued by the Tirana Traffic Police over the past week as part of checks aimed at improving road safety.

Thirty-two people were arrested for road traffic-related offences, while 75 vehicles were impounded for various violations.

Checks focused particularly on vehicles causing excessive noise, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol or while intoxicated.

Among the cases identified were two drivers who attempted to bribe police officers after they were caught driving while intoxicated.

A further 19 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Road safety violations resulted in 4,998 administrative penalties, while 7,868 penalties were issued for improper stopping, standing or parking that obstructed traffic. Motorcycle and scooter riders were also a focus of the checks, with 1,093 penalties issued for failure to wear a helmet.

The Traffic Police continue to carry out checks on the capital’s main roads and are urging drivers to obey traffic regulations, refrain from driving after consuming alcohol and exercise maximum caution on the road.
