Prime Minister Edi Rama welcomed the European Union’s new ambassador to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, at the Prime Minister’s Office today. Moreira de Sousa has officially taken charge of the EU Delegation in Tirana.
Rama shared photos from the meeting on social media. “Welcome to Tirana, the new Ambassador of the European Union, Sofia Moreira de Sousa,” he wrote.
The meeting came just days after the Portuguese diplomat officially began her mandate. On September 2, Moreira de Sousa presented her credentials to President Bajram Begaj. The ceremony formally marked the start of her four-year term as EU ambassador to Albania.
Following the ceremony, the new ambassador described Albania’s European integration as a process at a decisive stage. She stressed that both sides should focus on improving citizens’ lives.
Meanwhile, Moreira de Sousa said she would work closely with Albanian authorities and other partners. Together, they will seek to advance Albania’s path toward European Union membership.
