The presidents of Albania’s courts have called for the immediate unblocking of salaries for judges and judicial administration staff, as well as the implementation of the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the matter.
At a meeting held today, they discussed the situation created by the failure to process salaries and the consequences this has for the normal functioning of the courts.
In their institutional statement, the court presidents stressed that payment for work performed is an obligation and that the concerns of judicial administration staff are genuine. According to them, salaries must be processed without delay, while employees’ reactions should not disrupt the continuity of court operations.
The court presidents also rejected claims that the judiciary had set its own salaries, arguing that they are seeking the implementation of Constitutional Court Decision No. 15, dated February 17, 2026, which they described as final and binding.
According to them, the blocking of salaries and differing interpretations regarding the effects of the ruling affect judicial independence and the normal functioning of the justice system.
“The protection of judges’ salaries is not an economic privilege, but one of the safeguards of judicial independence,” the court presidents said in their statement.
