Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, took part in the “The Balkans Meet in Trieste” conference.
The Italian news agency ANSA organized the conference during the 34th General Assembly of the Alliance of Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE). The event brought together senior representatives from the Central European Initiative (CEI) and the OSCE. In addition, news agency leaders from 12 countries attended.
The conference focused on two major issues: strategic communication on EU enlargement and the fight against disinformation.
The Director General of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency, Valbona Zhupa, also took part in the event.
Speaking about the Albanian Telegraphic Agency in Trieste, Hoxha highlighted the challenges facing the region and the wider world. In particular, he said uncertainty has become one of the defining features of the current international environment. As a result, Hoxha said, closer relations with the European Union have become even more important. He emphasized that EU membership remains a strategic goal for Albania. Moreover, Albanians set this objective at the beginning of the country’s democratic transition.
Hoxha also underscored the importance of Albania taking part in international discussions on the Balkans and EU enlargement.
“We must be present wherever our region, the Balkans, Albania and enlargement are discussed,” Hoxha said.
Therefore, he argued that Albania must clearly present its position and vision. At the same time, he described international forums as an opportunity to strengthen the country’s image abroad. Hoxha also highlighted the important role of news agencies in providing reliable information. He described them as the “foundation” of the information system.
Furthermore, Hoxha praised the work of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency. He said news agencies must maintain their professional standards despite growing challenges. At the same time, he urged them to remain committed to accuracy and reliable reporting as the media landscape continues to change.
Foreign Minister Hoxha also addressed the growing challenge of disinformation. According to the minister, accurate information remains essential for society. People need reliable facts to make informed decisions. For this reason, he called for greater attention to the sources of information and the way it is processed.
“Truth and accurate information are essential for moving forward,” Hoxha said.
