Government reshuffle, Interior Minister Lamallari leaves, Ervin Demo takes over

Prime Minister Edi Rama has officially announced a change in of Albania’s Interior Ministry, with Besfort Lamallari leaving the post and Ervin Demo taking over as minister.

During a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, Rama said the move was part of a reshuffle within the government team. Lamallari will continue working alongside the prime minister, while Demo, who previously served as Minister of State for Local Government, will assume responsibility for the Interior Ministry.

“We have decided to make a change in the team that is on the field,” Rama said, praising Lamallari’s integrity and experience.

The prime minister said Lamallari had carried out his duties with professionalism and that his experience would now be put to use in his new role at the Prime Minister’s Office.

“He has done his job with all the integrity that characterizes him,” Rama said.

Lamallari thanked the prime minister for his trust and said his time in government had helped him grow professionally, politically and personally.

“There is no greater honor than serving your country, trying every day to give your best in the responsibilities entrusted to you,” Lamallari said in a statement following the announcement.

He described his experience leading the Interior Ministry as an unforgettable journey and confirmed that he would remain part of Rama’s team.

Meanwhile, Ervin Demo thanked Rama for his confidence and said one of his priorities would be strengthening relations with local communities and increasing citizens’ trust in public institutions.

“The Interior Ministry has a very important role, and we will be fully focused on moving it forward,” Demo said.

The changes come as part of a broader reorganization of government responsibilities, with Rama wishing both officials success in their new roles.
