Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi welcomed today members of the US Senate and House of Representatives staff at the Ministry of Defense. The US officials are taking part in the “Balkans Forward Congressional Fellowship 2026”, organized by the Atlantic Council.
During the meeting, Nufi highlighted Albania’s growing role in Euro-Atlantic security. He described the meeting as an opportunity to emphasize that Albania no longer acts only as a consumer of Euro-Atlantic security.
“Albania is increasingly becoming a real contributor to collective defense, regional stability and NATO readiness,” Nufi said.
Meanwhile, the participants discussed strategic projects and investments in Albania’s national infrastructure. They highlighted Corridor VIII, Porto Romano and the Kuçova Air Base as important parts of efforts to strengthen national capabilities and meet Albania’s NATO commitments.
The upcoming NATO Summit in Tirana also featured prominently in the discussions.
Nufi described Albania’s role as host as both an honor and a responsibility. He said the summit reflects the trust placed in Albania and confirms that the Western Balkans form an integral part of the Euro-Atlantic security space.
The meeting further highlighted Albania’s growing contribution to collective defense and its strengthening role within NATO.
