The Antigonea Archaeological Park in the Gjirokastër region hosted participants in the Ultra4Charity Mountain Race. The runners crossed the area and explored the landscapes of the Drinos Valley. Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said the event promoted the area’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.
Ultra4Charity organises races and sporting adventures, including ultramarathons, around the world to raise funds for charity. Three former British military personnel founded the organisation. This year’s race covered the coastal mountain range in the Vlorë region. The area features dry streams, deep gorges and sparse vegetation dominated by pine and other coniferous trees.
Meanwhile, the Antigonea Archaeological Park provided one of the race’s highlights. Participants later enjoyed views of the Ionian Sea and the island of Corfu across the strait. The race offered three distances: 100 kilometres over two days, and 50 kilometres and 25 kilometres over one day. All three routes accommodated both runners and walkers.
