Lake Shkodër highlighted as major tourism and nature destination

Lake Shkodër continues to attract growing numbers of domestic and foreign visitors as one of the region’s major tourism and nature destinations. Prime Minister Edi Rama shared evening images of the lake, highlighting its tourism and natural attractions.

UNESCO declared Lake Shkodër a Transboundary Biosphere Reserve in June. The lake thereby joined the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. It is considered one of Europe’s richest areas for biodiversity, with diverse fish and waterbird populations.

The lake also offers opportunities for active tourism throughout the year. Visitors can enjoy water sports, hiking, birdwatching and other recreational activities. Its natural environment makes it an attraction across different seasons.

Lake Shkodër is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula and lies on the border between Albania and Montenegro. Its ecosystem represents one of Europe’s most important biodiversity areas, with diverse flora and fauna.

The lake reaches a maximum depth of around 45 metres. The city of Shkodër lies on its southeastern shore, giving the lake its name.
