Visitors Continue to Flock to Lezhë Castle in September

Cultural heritage sites across Albania continue to attract domestic and international visitors in mid-September.

Lezhë Castle remains one of the city’s most visited attractions. It combines history and archaeology with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Since January, the castle has welcomed 5,884 visitors. Most came from Western Europe, with British, French and German tourists making up the largest groups.

According to the Shkodër Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, visitors continue to arrive at the castle every day. They explore traces of different historical periods while enjoying views of the city and the Adriatic Sea.

Meanwhile, the castle stands on Lezhë’s hill, a strategic location that has played an important role for centuries. Its history spans several periods, from antiquity to the Middle Ages and the Ottoman period.

The castle occupies the site of ancient Acrolissos, an ancient city linked to the early development of Lezhë. Its walls and archaeological remains show how the fortifications changed over different periods.

The castle and its surroundings also preserve traces of various interventions and reconstructions. These remains offer direct evidence of the city’s long and complex history.

Beyond its historical and archaeological value, Lezhë Castle also attracts visitors with its panoramic views. From the hill, they can see the city, the Zadrima Plain and the Adriatic coast.

As a result, the castle offers visitors a unique experience where history and nature come together.
