The Hague verdict against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders has drawn reactions from the sports world. Former Albania national team footballer Taulant Xhaka has publicly expressed his support for Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.
Xhaka posted a poster on Instagram featuring the four former KLA leaders. The poster carried the messages “Do Not Forget History!”, “Not in My Name” and “Their Freedom Is Our Honor.”
In another post featuring Kadri Veseli, the former Albania international wrote: “Always with you.”
Xhaka’s reaction came one day after the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague announced the first-instance verdict. The court sentenced Hashim Thaçi to 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, Rexhep Selimi to 13 years and Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years.
Meanwhile, Taulant Xhaka, who has Kosovo roots, represented the Albania national team for several years. His brother, Granit Xhaka, captains Switzerland. The two brothers also played together at Basel.
