Commercial flights in Albania increased by 22% in August 2026 from the same month last year, according to Eurostat data. The increase ranked among the highest in Europe.
Albania also recorded a much higher increase than the European Union average of 2.3%. In the region, Montenegro followed Albania with a 16.1% increase. North Macedonia recorded a 15.8% rise. Serbia saw growth of 3.1%. Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded a slight decline of 0.2%.
Across Europe, Slovakia recorded the highest increase at 37%. Estonia followed with 8.3%. Poland recorded 7.8%, Slovenia 7.4%, Lithuania 6.8% and Italy 5.7%.
Meanwhile, several European markets recorded fewer flights in August. Iceland saw the largest decline at 5.9%. Austria followed with 4.7%. Cyprus recorded a 3% decline. Germany fell by 2.4%, while the Netherlands recorded a 2% drop.
Albania recorded the increase during the peak summer tourism season. The period typically brings higher numbers of tourists and air travellers.
