A conference on cultural and scientific cooperation between Albania and France took place at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The event focused on Albania’s artistic heritage and the study of its medieval and post-medieval icons.
The exhibition “Icons of Albania, Treasures of the National Museum of Medieval Art of Korça,” currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts of Chambéry, provided the starting point for the discussion. Nicolas Bousquet, director of the Chambéry museums, presented the history of the exhibition. He linked its creation to the twinning of Korça and Chambéry and cooperation with the National Museum of Medieval Art of Korça.
Meanwhile, Maximilien Durand, director of the Louvre’s Department of Byzantine and Eastern Christian Arts, discussed the history of Byzantine and post-Byzantine painting in Albania. He highlighted the artistic value of the works presented in the exhibition and new research opportunities developed through cooperation with Albanian specialists.
Albanian Ambassador to France Dritan Tola also attended the event. He expressed appreciation for the presentation and promotion of Albania’s heritage at the Louvre. Tola said cultural diplomacy can build links between institutions and peoples while supporting scientific research and the rediscovery of shared European heritage.
The National Museum of Medieval Art thanked Durand and Bousquet for their work. It also thanked Françoise Mardrus, Director of Museum Studies at the Louvre, for hosting the event.
